The Partners Developing the Resource
The Aberdeenshire Community Composting resource has been developed by Zero Waste Scotland, in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council.
Zero Waste Scotland exists to lead Scotland to use products and resources responsibly, focusing on where it can have the greatest impact on climate change. Using evidence and insight, its goal is to inform policy and motivate individuals and businesses to embrace the environmental, economic, and social benefits of a circular economy. It is a not-for-profit environmental organisation, funded by the Scottish Government.
Aberdeenshire Council provides waste management services across the region and has supported the development of this resource and engagement with a wide range of organisations delivering community composting. Aberdeenshire Council provides a weekly food waste collection service at the kerbside to all households in the area however as part of the Council’s Waste Strategy, the objectives include supporting the move towards a more circular economy which includes encouraging householders to consider how their waste can be dealt with at source. Community composting or composting at home allows for garden waste and some food waste to be managed locally, reducing carbon emissions and creating a valuable resource that can also be used locally.
